Slakking Off

2015 (Revised 2024)

Summary

Slakking Off is a tabletop adventure where 3-5 players investigate a formerly bustling mine to discover why workers have been disappearing.

Slacking Off is a level 3 adventure for Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition made in one month.

What Went Well

  • Adventure was well polished due to being based on a previous version.
  • Custom monster sheet gave enemies more weight.
  • NPCs had a lot of character and were enjoyed by players.

What Went Wrong

  • Not much content between encounters.
  • Little railroady at times.
  • Crazed Miner sheet baked image, preventing revisions.

Process and Post Mortem

The adventure was well received by players throughout testing and as a final product. Creating a cast of memorable characters and events strengthened the encounters. I gave DMs plenty of contingency plans to deal with any curveballs a party may throw at them.

The weakness of this project comes from focusing a bit too hard on the encounters themselves. Transitions from event to event are weak, players move from one location to the next and find content there rather than happening upon it organically. Working on this project again I would make the sickness more important, hinting at it throughout the adventure.
